Brian B. Shulman

Dr. Shulman received his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees, both in Speech-Language Pathology, from Bowling Green State University (OH).  His Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology is from the State University of New York College at Cortland.

Dr. Shulman co-authored the popular textbook entitled Language Development:  Foundations, Processes, and Clinical Applications with Dr. Nina Capone. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Child Language (BCS-CL) as conferred by the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD). He is also a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP). He served a three-year term from 2006-2008 as ASHA’s nationally elected Vice President for Speech-Language Pathology Practice.

Tricia McCabe

Dr. McCabe's research, teaching and clinical practice are all focused on improving treatments for moderate-severe speech impairments in children and adults. Within this area she has a number of interests including (a) treatments for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) (also known as dyspraxia), (b) disorders of speech which cause impairments to production of polysyllabic words and longer linguistic units, (c) the comparison of phonological and articulation treatments to demonstrate relative effectiveness and efficiency and (d) the use of ultrasound for biofeedback in speech pathology.


Dr. McCabe is interested in the application of the principles of speech motor learning to new treatments for CAS particularly and articulation and voice disorders more generally. She is also interested in the application of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in speech pathology, speech pathology service delivery innovations and exploring professional voice user training.

University of Santo Tomas

Gigi is the founding chair and current Chairperson of the Department of Speech Language Pathology at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences – University of Santo Tomas. Concurrently, she is a member of the Technical Committee for Speech Language Pathology Education of the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education.  She is one of the original incorporators; past president; and at present, a Trustee of the Philippine Association of Speech Pathologists. 

She obtained her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology, from the University of Philippines-College of Allied Medical Professions. She completed her degree,  Master in Health Professions Education from  the University of the Philippines-National Training Center for the Health Professions. 

A speech pathologist for the past 28 years, she has extensive teaching and clinical experience. Gigi has actively taken part in various local, national andinternational conferences as lecturer / resource person.  She has engaged in collaborative research works in the fields of hearing habilitation, stroke rehabilitation and most recently in inclusive education.

Judith A. Damian

Ms. Damian received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Boston University in Massachusetts.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology (cum laude) from the University of the Philippines, Manila.  She is the second Filipino to have this degree in the Philippines.

Ms. Damian is a California licensed Medical Speech Language Pathologist with 25+ years of experience in all areas of adult rehabilitation in direct patient care and management in a variety of health care settings such as acute hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehab centers, and skilled nursing facilities.  She has a specialty in gerontology, adult dysphagia, and adult neurogenic communication disorders.  She was a director of rehabilitation for several large rehab service companies in the USA for the past 6 years.

Ms. Damian has taught undergraduate SP courses in the University of the Philippines.  She has provided clinical teaching, supervision, and mentoring to graduate SLP students and ASHA Clinical Fellows in Massachusetts and California.  She has presented educational sessions to other healthcare professionals and physicians on varied topics related to adult dysphagia and cognitive-linguistic deficits, in the USA and locally. Currently, she is a faculty member of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, College of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

Rachel Reyes

Rachel received a full Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbusho) to the University of Tsukuba in Japan at which she graduated with a Master of Arts  in Special Education for the  Hearing Impaired. She obtained her Bachelor of Science  in Speech Pathology  from the University of the Philippines-Manila. 

Rachel passed the  certification exam in Auditory Verbal Therapy given by the Alexander Graham  Bell Academy in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia.  Since then,  she has been intensively   training  young children with hearing impairment to listen and talk and coaching their parents to enable them to become actively involved in their children’s development.   She works with   families from Southeast Asia, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, France, Australia and New Zealand.

Jean Christine Vela

Jean obtained her degree in BS Speech Pathology at the College of Allied Medical Professions, University of the Philippines, Manila in 1997. She has then handled pediatric cases on one-one-one setting in private clinics.  Her caseload primarily involves children with higher language concerns, stuttering, and motor-speech problems.

Currently, Jean is a consultant speech pathologist at Trails Center for Children.  She handles pediatric cases on both one-on-one and group therapy settings.  Her current cases primarily cover language delays and disorders. At Trails, Jean also supervises student clinicians from the University of the Philippines-College of Allied Medical Professions and University of Santo Tomas-College of Rehabilitation Sciences.

In the academe, Jean holds selected classroom lectures and activities for speech pathology students covering:  articulation, language, stuttering, and diagnostics. Her special interests include perceptual skills, auditory processing and language acquisition. She has been involved in developing and creating models of thinking for purposes of facilitating efficient clinical judgment and decision-making. Jean has been developing programs for higher language skills, narrative development, and social thinking / social skills. She is also involved in developing school-based therapy programs for children with autism.

Barbara F. Munar

Anthony D. Koutsoftas

Dr. Anthony Koutsoftas received his Bachelors degree from New York University, Masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and PhD from Arizona State University.

Anthony teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including language and literacy disorders in school age populations and research methods. Anthony’s research interests include the development of reading, oral language, and writing abilities in typically developing children and children at risk for academic failure including children with Language-Based Learning Disabilities.

Anthony has presented his work at conferences nationwide including: The Annual Convention of the American Speech Language Hearing Association, Symposium on Research in Child Language Disorders, Society for Scientific Studies in Reading, and the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction - Conference on Writing Research.

He is the recipient of the Researcher of the Year Award for the School of Health and Medical Sciences – Division of Health Sciences, from the Office of Grants and Research Services at Seton Hall University, awarded on February 12, 2013. He is also a recipient of the Archbishop John J. Myers Outstanding Educator Award in Health Sciences, awarded at the May 19, 2012, School of Health and Medical Sciences Graduate Commencement.

Roslyn Ward

Jocelyn Christina B. Marzan

Dr. Marzan received her Doctor of Philosophy in Developmental Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Her Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology is from New York University while her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology is from University of the Philippines, Manila.

Dr. Marzan has been a proponent/author of academic programs such as Masters in Clinical Audiology, Rehabilitation Sciences – Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation Sciences. She has developed and taught 17 different undergraduate courses from 1991 to 2015. She also developed 29 different graduate courses and taught 12 graduate courses from 1997 to present.

Dr. Marzan has been a principal investigator of varied studies, co-authored journals and presented in conferences, local and international. Her dissertation on Spoken Language Patterns of Selected Filipino Toddlers and Preschool Children received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Psychological Association of the Philippines in 2013.

Aurorita T. Roldan

Dr. Roldan received her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology (major in Clinical with a minor in Developmental Psychology) from the University of the Philippines, Diliman (UPD).  Her Master of Arts degree in Developmental Studies (major in Women and Development) is from the Institute of Social Studies at The Hague, Netherlands.  Her undergraduate degree of B.S. Home Economics (major in Family Life and Child Development) is from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

Dr. Roldan is the current Dean of College of Home Economics. She has been with the UP Diliman, College of Home Economics (CHE), Department of Family Life and Child Development since 1983. She is a DZUP Radio Host for CHE’s “Kagalingang Pantahanan” weekly show, a member of the University Council Committee on University Instruction and a Board Member of the UPD Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts.

Dr. Roldan is a Lifetime Member of the International Honor Society in Social Science PI GAMMA MU. She has also received professional and academic recognition and awards such as the PetroEnergy Resources Corporation UP Centennial Professorial Chair in FLCD (October 2012-September 2013) and Professional Award in Research and International Linkages in Family Life and Child Development (2008) given by the Home Economics Alumni Association.

In the academe, Dr. Roldan has taught varied subjects in the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has been a principal investigator of varied studies and co-authored published journals. She also attended various trainings; conceptualized and organized training modules, academic and counseling programs; conducted program evaluations and presented in local and international conferences.

And finally, to top all these credentials, Dr. Roldan is married to an ordained minister, Reverend Marlon Roldan, mother to 3 children and a doting grandmother to two grandsons and 4 granddaughters.

Aurora Quipit

Aurora Quipit is a practicing speech-language pathologist for the past 19 years at the New York City Department of Education in New York, New York. She has also worked as a speech therapist at Francis of Paola Preschool from 1994-1997.

Aurora’s educational background include the following:

• Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, NY
• Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the College of Allied Medical Professions, University of the Philippines in Manila
• Bachelor of Science degree in Family Life and Child Development (minor in Special Education) from the College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City

At present, she is enrolled in the Global Competency Certificate Program offered by Teachers College, Columbia University in conjunction with World Savvy and Asia Society.

Aurora is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association where she obtained her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). She also possesses several professional licenses, namely:

• New York State license in Speech-Language Pathology
• New York State license as Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSSH)
• New York State license as Teacher of Special Education
• New York State license as Teacher of Nursery through Grade 6
• New York City Public Schools license as Teacher of Speech Improvement

Aurora has been living in NYC for the past 27 years. Aside from working at NYC’s public school system, she has also worked as an SLP for Bilinguals Inc. providing speech intervention services for children ages 0-3 years. She has also worked as a special education preschool teacher at the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC)/Blue Feather Preschool in Astoria, NY.

Jesusa Rowyna Wolgamotti

Ms. Wolgamotti received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the California State University-East Bay.  She has a Master of Health Professions Education from the National Teacher Training Center, University of the Philippines-Manila.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology from the University of the Philippines-Manila.

Ms. Wolgamotti founded Communicare Therapy Center for Children in Paranaque city, and now at the SM Mall of Asia.  For more than 20 years, Communicare has been providing excellent therapy services to pediatric clients and their families.  She taught both undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervised clinical interns, at the University of the Philippines-Manila for 14 years.

Ms. Wolgamotti works as a school-based SLP with the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. She currently works with Kindergarten to 6^th grade students with a variety of communication disorders.  She works in a school with a culturally diverse population, so she is constantly seeking evidence-based practice in diagnosing language disorders vs. language difference. 

Carla Krishan A. Cuadro

From the time she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and her Masters in Rehabilitation Science-Speech Pathology from the University of the Philippines-Manila, Carla has been working as a speech- language pathologist with the adult and elderly populations. Her work in hospital settings, private clinic setups, and in the academe has led her to concentrate on voice problems, swallowing and adult cognitive- communication disorders, particularly aphasia and motor speech disorders brought about by stroke, dementia, and neurodegenerative conditions.

To date, she is a consultant speech-language pathologist at the Memory Center as well as the Voice, Swallowing and Sinus Center of St. Luke’s Medical Center, and is a senior consultant at Core Skills Therapy Center where she works with special children. She teaches undergraduate and graduate classes at the College of Allied Medical Professions in the University of the Philippines—Manila, and at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Santo Tomas.

Carla had collaborated with Dr. Tricia Olea-Santos and Dr. Hanna Ulatowska on stroke narratives in bilingual aphasia, leading them to present a research poster at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) convention in San Diego, California in 2011. She had recently presented her own research at the Asian Society Against Dementia (ASAD) conference in Kumamoto, Japan, and at the Asia-Pacific Society on Speech, Language and Hearing (APSSLH) in Guangzhou, China.

She is a certified practitioner of the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT®), an evidence-based voice treatment approach designed for Parkinson’s disease patients. She once served as a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Association of Speech Pathologists. In 2008, under the Technical Panel for Health Professions Education, she had helped put together the speech-language pathology curriculum for the Commission on Higher Education.
